Cameron Wathey - Returns to Toronto after Year Abroad in Sint Maarten
Cameron Wathey is a University of Toronto (U of T) and Queen's University graduate who has several policy and project management experience with non-profit organizations, NGOs, and governments, including with the United Nations, the Ontario Government and the Government of Sint Maarten. Cameron previously served as director of foreign relations for the Government of Sint Maarten, where his responsibilities included executing its foreign policy strategy, managing diplomatic protocols, and addressing consular matters. Originally from Sint Maarten, Cameron Wathey also spearheaded Sint Maarten's representation at major international forums, including the UN General Assembly, and managed stakeholder relations between the Prime Minister and senior officials.
Prior to pursuing his masters degree in public policy and administration from Queen's University, Cameron Wathey also coordinated several projects both in Toronto and Sint Maarten. He led a beach tour project that helped revitalize Sint Maarten's tourism sector following Hurricane Irma in 2017. And prior to that, he organized multiple student large-scale events and orientations at University of Toronto, George Brown College and Queen's University. Cameron has an Honours B.A. from the University of Toronto, a Master's in public policy and administration (MPA) from Queen's University, is a Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute and has certificates in Project Management and Strategic Public Relations from U of T's School of Continuing Studies.
While in Toronto, Cameron Wathey held various policy positions with the Ontario Government. He implemented key policies in several ministries, including Indigenous Affairs, Children Community and Social Services, and Citizenship and Multiculturalism. He has additional experience as a consultant with the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, where he planned interview processes and leadership training for resident and humanitarian coordinators.
Cameron has now returned to Toronto to continue contributing to the Toronto and Ontario community as a Senior Policy Advisor with the Ontario Government. In his spare time he loves to volunteer with cultural organizations including the Toronto International Film Festival, HotDocs, Toronto Fringe Festival. He is also an avid road cyclist as well as big proponent for greater cycling as a means of daily transportation in Toronto.
